The Mentorship program is targeted for adoptees ages 8 to 17 with the goals of:
  • fostering personal self-esteem through positive role modeling and companionship.
  • Facilitating an appreciation of diverse cultures and races and their own contribution to the global family.
  • Encouraging dignity and self respect for adoption.

By providing:

  • a safe place for discussing issues about race, identity and adoption. 
  • Educational, cultural and community volunteering activities. 
  • Mentors who are trained to handle questions of adoption and identity.

You must be a member of Also-Known-As and be able to attend monthly events. Program duration spans from September to June.

Please be advised that due to funding and volunteer restraints that this program has a limited amount of participants and not all applicants will be selected. 

Mentors, Mentees and Parents 1999
Information for Parents
You or your child will have an opportunity to be friends with other adult and young adoptees, to have adults guide them about issues of adoption.  To empower them, by giving them the tools to live in a multicultural society and prepare them for the many questions they will face as they grow.

Requirements:
Mentees must be between the ages of 8-17, an intercountry adoptee, submit an application and be willing to attend an interviews with their parents.


Information for Mentors

You will have an opportunity to become a role model, to be a friend to a young person, and able to enhance their own lives by sharing your own rich experiences.

Requirements:
You must be at least 21 Years old or older, professional, well versed in the subject of adoption, be able to make a one year commitment, be willing to work in a group setting, be a team player. Application, survey, interviews and background checks are a MUST.
