Thank you for your interest in starting an Also-Known-As Charter Chapter in your local area. We believe that we can provide you and your community with a number of advantages and benefits to improve your programs, increase membership, expand your influence, and ultimately provide better services and advocacy on behalf of the intercountry adoption community.

In becoming a chapter, you will gain the confidence and security of one of the largest and most recognized community based organizations of intercountry adoptees nationwide. You will play a vital role in enlarging the collective strength of intercountry adoptees nationwide.

Recognition of Also-Known-As
Join one of the oldest and most recognized intercountry adoptee communities. We are active in public policy initiatives such as the implementation of the Hague Convention. By becoming a chapter your organization will gain the recognition and stability of Also-Known-As

Logistical Assistance
No one knows better how hard it is to build a grass roots organization from scratch. Since 1996 we have been growing and learning. Let our years of experience go to work for you. You will have direct access to our planning materials, such as our internal operational handbook and program templates. You will also receive support from us in developing and implementing these programs.

Increased National Visibility
Your chapter will have representation in TransCultured Magazine with announcements, updates and articles. In addition we will provide you with web hosting under the alsoknownasinc.org domain free of charge.

Awareness
You will participate in an exchange of up to date news and recent developments on regional, national and international issues reflecting our communities.

Support
You will be able to network with experienced members and volunteers in the community.

Community Building
Communicate and articulate the concerns of our community to media, local, national and international leaders through shared resources.

National Membership
Also-Known-As claims membership to several national organizations and conferences such as the North American Council of Adoptable Children.

All groups that are considering an application for a chapter charter should fulfill the following requirements.

• Have a group of at least for persons residing in the United States who desire to apply for an Also-Known-As Chapter or be a preexisting organization (incorporated or a non incorporated association) within the United States whose governing body desires to join Also-Known-As
• The applicant must be or plan to become a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization within one year of being installed.
• Name or rename the Chapter Organization "Also-Known-As - "Name of City or Region" Chapter
• Adopt the mission of Also-Known-As
