After a request by adult adoptees in the Washington D.C. areas, Also-Known-As reorganized itself to establish Charter Chapter Organizations (CCOs) in December of 2000.

We recognized the need to broaden our own organization in order to provide services and programs for the adoption community where non existed before.

Charter Chapters are independent 501(c)3 non-profit organizations that choose to adopt the Also-Known-As name and mission.

Charter Chapter Organizations (CCOs) are separate incorporated non profit organizations established in their home state or district. Each chapter is financially independent and solely liable for its debts, liabilities or obligations. They are governed by their own elected governing body.

Each chapter is free to create and administer its own programs within the territory assigned to them. They are also free to affiliate with local or community organizations within each of their own geographic areas.

Issues and concerns that affect Also-Known-As on a national organization wide level. Such issues are but are not limited to:

• National Public Policy platforms
• Changes to the Organization's mission statement
• Official affiliations and associations on a national level
• Changes in governance of parent-chapter or inter-chapter administration
