The Korean American Coalition, a national membership-based nonprofit community service, education and advocacy organization established in 1983 to facilitate the Korean American community's effective participation in civic, legislative, political and community affairs. KAC was founded in Los Angeles, California, where the largest population of Korean Americans in the nation resides.

Today, KAC has grown into a national organization with membership chapters in several cities along the West Coast, Alaska, and Hawaii, and affiliated organizations on the East Coast. With over a dozen full-time staff and a large base of volunteers, KAC provides a variety of direct and indirect services to the fast growing Korean American communities across the nation.

In 1999, KAC announced its affiliation with the Korean American Alliance (KAA), a Virginia-based nonprofit organization that was founded in 1992 in order to empower the local Korean American community through various service and education programs. Because of the similar missions, programs and membership, the two organizations recently agreed to combine their goals and resources in the national capital region to better serve the community. Thus, beginning January, KAA will operate as the official KAC Washington, DC, Area Chapter.
